Why is Matt Read not getting any chance ?
We saw a lot of different D-Man already coming from Phantoms

What is matt read going to bring to this team? The team is already a little small on the wings. It's not like he is lighting up the AHL either where you think he might be able to bring a spark.

Not hating the guy..just not sure what he is going to do.

I get wanting Lehtera and Weise gone but Read isn't really the answer.

And the defense call ups were due to injuries and Radko's suspension.

Because they know what they are getting with Matt Read and that is nothing.

I like Read but he's had 422 games with the Flyers. They know what they will get from him at this stage of his career. Basically, Leier took over what had become Read's role.

You bench one turd and you'll be replacing them with another turd. Either way it's a turd.

Are we actually asking for Matt Read? The guy who everyone wanted traded , demoted, or even bought out all of last season?

I guess they are giving Neuvirth an extra week off to be safe, but it's far from ideal to have Elliott play every game in December till the Christmas break.

It was really only one person and we pounced on him. There will be no more matt read discussions.

He's 31 years old for (frank)s sake. What's the point?

I’ve seen his name pop up a couple of times; don’t mean to call anyone out to make them feel bad. I’m just shocked after how much hate he’s drawn for years it seems. I swear someone said he’s too good for the AHL the other day.

Every team passed on him when he cleared waivers. Nuff said

Not everyone, just people too dumb to realize that scoring 16 ESP in 63 games while playing in the bottom 6 and maintaining stellar possession numbers is actually quite difficult.

Leier has the possession numbers, but is on pace for 11 ESP in 74 games. He's also been injured multiple times already.

Weise is pacing for 16 ESP in 76 games, but is a terrible possession player in 17-18, which is exactly who you don't want attached to Patrick at this stage of his career.

Lehtera is too slow to play in the NHL.

Everyone would pass on Weise or Lehtera if they were waived.

You are correct. Again, you're taking one turd from here and replacing it with another turd from there.

Albeit maybe a slightly less stinkier turd, but nonetheless, still a turd

Read can still be a competent 4th line player in the NHL. He lost a step after the high ankle sprain a few years ago, and never got it back. Became a little too content to play the perimeter and to be mostly a checking specialist. Not a bad player to this day but still getting paid like the 20+ goal scorer he used to be.

Read-Laughton-Konecny would be a better 4th line than what they will put on the ice in Buffalo tonight.

I understand that Hextall doesn't want to waive guys with term that he signed/traded for, but the Flyers are worse off with Read in the AHL instead of Lehtera.

Correct. Nothing against him, I'm sure he's a nice guy and all, but he just can't play. This team already has it's abundance of 4th line players.

Maybe you're right, maybe you're not.

The fact that Read hasn't been recalled makes me believe that the Flyers coaching staff thinks they can do better with Lehtera

Coaches don't determine the roster, the GM does.

The only way this will make sense is if Hextall can get an asset back for Lehtera somehow.
